Hello! Welcome to my very first Top Ten Tuesday post!
I realized that once school began again, I would struggle a bit with posting regularly since I wouldn’t have so much time for reading during school as I did in the holidays so I did what I normally do when I want to blog but I have nothing to blog about: I searched for fun tags and blog memes.
I found this great post which lists a load of book blog memes, which you can find here!
I decided to do Top Ten Tuesdays and I Heart Characters (every Thursday) to keep me blogging frequently.
So, a little update on what’s been going on: The third term began last week Tuesday and it’s been hard getting back into routine after weeks of lying around and doing nothing. The worst part about these past few days was probably stressing myself to death about my exam marks. Luckily, I passed all my exams with flying colors and I can finally breathe a little easier.

I feel so guilty about not posting last week but I needed some time to get back to normal again.
So here I am! Let’s get to Top Ten Tuesday!
Today, I’m talking about:
Top Ten Characters I Love!
(I just want you to know that these characters aren’t in any specific orderπ)
Julian Blackthorn: (The Dark Artifices)

I had some trouble starting The Dark Artifices, so for the first book I was really indifferent. But by Lord Of Darkness I was in love with him.
We have a saying in Afrikaans: Stille water, diepe grond; onder draai die duiwel rond.
It translates to “still waters, deep ground, underneath the devil turns around”. (The translation even rhymes, as wellπ) It basically just means that someone who has a calm and collected appearance might have a darker side you know nothing about.
This idiom just kept repeating in my mind while I was reading The Dark Artifices books and I feel like it fits perfectly with Julian.
At first you think, oh, he’s so innocent and sweet and would do anything for his family. And then, by the end of QOAAD, you’re just like, this guy would die for his family and isn’t afraid to go dark in order to do that and I just loved that transition.
He’s someone who’ll do anything to protect the ones he live and I think that’s admirable, even though they don’t always get along (but to be fair, when do siblings ever get along?)

Manon Blackbeak: (Throne of Glass)
She’s ruthless, she’s wicked and she’s fantastic.
I love it.

I think the thing I love the most about Manon is how she’s unapologetic about who she is. She’s a bloodthirsty witch and she definitely owns up to that title.
One of the other reason why I love her so much is because of her character’s arc. I have only one word to describe it: beautiful.
She’s probably one of my favorite characters everπ

Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows) :

To be honest, Kaz scared me at first. He was ruthless and seemed to do everything for fun.
And then later on, I realized that’s why I absolutely adored him. He was cunning and ruthless just for the hell of it (and for money, too, of course).
He reminded me of Manon Blackbeak: they’re bad because the want to be.
Kaz just tip toes that line between chaotic and evil so finely that I can’t help admiring it.

Katniss Everdeen: (The Hunger Games)

I know some of you right now are going like what?
I’ve seen a lot of hate for Katniss recently but I honestly just loved her character. She felt raw, like someone who’s rough circumstances had scraped away the lovely exterior and left the savage human behind, willing to do whatever it takes to protect the very few people she loves fiercely.
She was blunt, didn’t care if what she said hurt anybody and was willing to do what she had to to survive.
So, yes. She’s been one of my favorites for a long time.

Percy Jackson: (Percy Jackson and the Olympians)

The series that got me into reading was Percy Jackson and the Olympians and I’ve been grateful for the series for years.
But if there’s one thing that has stuck with me through the years, it’s Percy Jackson.
He’s funny, relatable, a bit awkward and clumsy at times, loyal and hilarious. If I see a book synopsis and Percy’s name is in it, you can be assured that I will read that entire book, even if he’s only in one chapter.
Plus, Percy was probably my first fictional crushes so that adds to his perfection as well.

Will Herondale (The Infernal Devices)

I could just as well have written The Entire Herondale Family because I love them all. Charm and sarcasm just seems to be passed on without difficulty in this family.
Where do we start with this character?
His sense of humor, maybe? I laughed countless times during the series. And during rereads, I will laugh again.
He’s just one of those characters who never gets boring and will always be there to make you laugh but will also make you appreciate those moments of seriousness.

Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) :

Luna has always had a special place in my heart. The moment we met her, I knew she was going to be amazing. And she was.
She so weird and strange and so out of place that I just can’t help loving her. She shows you that you can be strange and people might think you’re crazy but that doesn’t mean you have to listen to them.
She’s so special to me and I always cheer whenever Luna comes on screen or makes an appearance in the book.

Alosa-lina Kalligan (Daughter of the Pirate King) :

She’s sassy, she’s a captain and she’s a pirate for the fun of it.
What’s not to love?
Once again, my reasons for loving her is the same for loving Kaz and Manon: she’s bad for the thrill of it. She goes on adventures and kicks butt all the while sporting a flirty smile.

Todd Hewitt (Chaos Walking)

I think the reason Todd grew on me was because he was such a sweet character.
He was genuinely a good person. He was still young and impressionable but he always tried to do the right thing. He was faced the with darkest side of being human but he still stayed a good person.

Nina Zenik (Six of Crows)

Ultimately, if Nina were real, I would constantly be wishing to be her friend.
She seems like that friend who’s gorgeous, who’s got it all together, who adores food but still looks like a model and can charm anyone.
Besides the obvious fact that she loves food (which is so relatable π) she also cares about her friends and won’t abandon them.

And that’s it for my very first Top Ten Tuesday!
