Wow!
I can’t believe I’m writing my twentieth Book Beginnings/ Friday 56 post! It feels like I only started doing this post a month ago! This meme is hosted by Rose City Reader and Freda’s Voice! Feel free to join in, just remember to link the creators!
Book Beginnings:
Eli popped an extra strength Advil and downed it with a mouthful of lukewarm coffee. She hoped that it would stop the ache in her chest, although it would do nothing for the rattling cough that kept her awake at night. Bronchioles turning to moss and spiderwebs were hell on the body.
The first two sentences were quite average, as far as Book Beginnings go. But it’s that third sentence that just comes out of nowhere!
The Friday 56:
“What kind of energy? Do you see auras or something?” Eli had met some of the new age types who played with fortune-telling and rituals. She had always laughed at them before, but maybe humans had their own kind of magic.
“Something like that. Yeah. And yours was…wild. Like nothing I’d ever seen before.”
“Is that a pick-up line?” Eli found herself smiling.
Tav laughed. “Hey, it usually works like a charm.”
The dialogue in this book feels a bit strange. It’s like the author is trying to be funny and lighten the mood, and at times the humor does hit the mark, but it feels off because it doesn’t feel like the type of thing these characters would say.
If you know what I mean.
