I decided that I wanted to binge-read a book for once this year. I wanted to lie in bed all day and read to my heart’s content, so I sent out a poll on Goodreads about what I should read. Vicious won by an impressive margin.

First, I have to say that the urge to read this book came from The Dacian She-Wolf and her awesome review!

Second, this is a character-driven book. If you prefer story-driven books, then this is not for you. There is a huge focus in this book on the characters, their actions and their pasts.

It’s for that reason that I give this book a 4/5 rating, and not a solid 5 stars.

I do wish there was some more to the story, action-wise, but overall I am very happy with the amazing characters we got! We have Victor, the intelligent main character that’s out for revenge, Sydney, the small girl with a strange ability and complicated family issues, and Mitch, the chocolate milk-loving hacker.

If you love found-family-feels, give Vicious a read!

I think that the biggest difference between Victor and Eli was that Eli believes what he’s doing is right, while Victor doesn’t care and just does what he needs to do.

The one thing in this book that really impressed me was the surprisingly logical magic system. The way it works and how EOs get their powers was really interesting to explore!

This book is the best definition of what morally grey means. There is no clear black and white, and every side thinks that what they’re doing is right. These characters constantly tread the line between evil and questionable. Would I love to read more of Victor and Eli? Yes, definitely. Do I want them to be my friend? No, absolutely not.

Will I read the sequel? Probably, but not now. Not until my mind has processed what happened in this wonderful book.

That’s it!

I couldn’t find much fanart from Vicious, which frustrates me because the fanart that exists is already so beautiful! We! Need! More!

Have you read this book? What did you think?

Till we meet again!
Xx Alexia

  1. I loved “Vicious” so much because all those characters are so morally grey! You’re right, it’s a completely character driven book but if you love books like that it’s perfect. About a couple of months ago I read “Vengeful” and loved it too. I hope you’ll enjoy it as well once you get to it. =)
